The Wolf Tooth CTRL-ALT-DEL family of pedals all share the ability to easily adjust the Q-factor (distance from axle flange to center of binding) between 51/55/59 mm. All pedals ship in the middle 55 mm position. Note that using the narrower Q-factor settings may make unclipping difficult with wider trail shoes due to contact between the shoe and crank arm. Always verify your ability to unclip in various crank-arm orientations before riding if you change the Q-factor setting!
TOOLS REQUIRED
Remove the end cap with a 6mm hex wrench.
Remove the axle bolt with a 3mm hex wrench while holding the axle with an 8mm hex wrench. Note that the axle bolt on the right pedal has a knurled head and is left-hand threaded, and you will turn clockwise to loosen it. The axle bolt on the left pedal is right-hand threaded, and you will turn counterclockwise to loosen it.
Slide the axle out of the pedal body.
Use the 6mm wrench to push the bearings out. There will be a bearing spacer on either side of the bearing stack. If the inboard spacer does not fall out with the bearings, use a pick or hex key to poke it out.
Reinstall the axle.
Reinstall the bearings and spacers in the order depending on the desired Q-Factor.
Reinstall the axle, and screw in the axle bolt. Remember the right pedal uses a left-hand threaded axle bolt and you will turn counterclockwise to tighten. The left pedal uses a right-hand threaded axle bolt and you will turn clockwise to tighten.
Torque the axle bolt to 5Nm.
Reinstall the end cap.
Torque the end cap to 7Nm.
Check that the pedal spins smoothly and is free of play.
Proper installation of the cleat is critical for optimal performance and feel with any clipless pedal. Your Wolf Tooth clipless pedals come with a cleat kit that includes two cleats, two cleat washers, four cleat screws, and two cleat shims.
First install the cleats without the cleat shims. Place the washer in the cleat, choose the desired location on your shoe. Put a small dab of grease on each screw and start threading the screws in.
As the screws start to tighten up, alternate back and forth between the screws, a quarter turn at a time. This method helps to compress the cleat into the base of the shoe evenly, and will help prevent the cleat from twisting. Finish tightening with a torque wrench and torque to 6Nm.
Put your shoes on and clip in and out of your pedals. Ensure the binding tension on the pedals is cranked all the way loose for this test. If it is difficult to clip in, or you have to press down really hard in order to get clipped in, and difficult to clip out, the cleat is likely too deep within the channel of the shoe and you will need to use the shims.
Remove the cleats, and place the cleat shim between the shoe and the cleat.
Repeat the previous steps, tightening the cleat down while alternating between the screws.
Finish tightening with a torque wrench and torque to 6Nm.
Put your shoes back on and clip in and out of the pedals again. It should feel crisp while clipping in and smooth to clip out.
Once you have the cleat height dialed, you can adjust the tension on the pedals to your desired setting, and you are ready to ride.
Clipless pedals have been tested by an independent laboratory to verify that they meet the ISO 4210 safety standards. We have also performed extensive in-house testing on specially constructed equipment that exceeds the industry standards.
