Boostinator DF2O Installation

Congratulations!  Now that you have yours, it's time to install that Boostinator.  Installation should take 3-5 minutes, re-dishing probably 5-10.

Tools and Supplies

Required:

  • Protective eyewear
  • Two 22mm crecent wrenches
  • Torque wrench with 22mm crow’s foot adapter
  • 20mm RockShox Maxle thru axle
  • Clean rag

Recommended:

  • Truing stand
  • Spoke wrench
  • Waterproof grease

Mounting Instructions

Note:  The 240 Oversize hub has no provisions for securing the internal axle during end cap removal.  If the non-disc side cap comes off first than the job is quick and easy.  If the disc side releases first, expect some cursing.  If you do not have all of the required tools, we strongly recommend taking your wheel to a qualified mechanic for installation.

  1. Mount one 22mm crecent wrenches to each end cap’s machined flats and while holding one stationary turn the second counter-clockwise until one end cap is free of wheel.
  2. If non-disc side end cap comes off first:
    • Congratulate yourself on your good fortune
    • Use rag to clean end cap recess and exposed hub axle threads
    • Remove wiper seal from stock end cap
    • Apply thin film of grease to inside diameter of wiper seal and place on Boostinator DF2O with thin end facing threads, thick end facing flange
    • Apply small amount of grease to exposed hub axle threads
    • Screw Boostiantor DF2O onto exposed non-disc side hub axle threads by hand
    1. If disc-side end cap comes off first:
      • Take a deep breath
      • Insert the threaded end of the 20mm RockShox Maxle thru axle into the disc side of the internal hub axle and tighten until Maxle expands inside and firmly holds hub axle
      • Holding Maxle firmly, use 22mm crecent wrench to remove non-disc end cap.
      • Remove Maxle
      • Use rag to clean both cap recesses and exposed hub axle threads.
      • Remove wiper seal from stock end cap
      • Apply thin film of grease to inside diameter of wiper seal and place on Boostinator DF2O with thin end facing threads, thick end facing flange
        • Apply small amount of grease to exposed hub axle threads
        • Screw stock end cap onto exposed disc-side hub axle threads by hand
        • Screw Boostiantor DF2O onto exposed non-disc side hub axle threads by hand
        1. Hold disc-side end cap with 22mm crescent wrench and use torque wrench to tighten Boostinator DF2O to 15Nm

        Re-Dishing Wheel

Important:  If unfamiliar with wheel building or truing, we strongly recommend taking your Boostinated wheel to a local shop for re-dishing.

        1. Mount wheel in truing stand.
        2. True wheel to remove any major hops or wobbles.
        3. Re-dish wheel by loosening disc-side and tightening drive-side spokes 1/4-turn per pass.

o   If previously true and properly dished, most wheels will require less than 1/2-turn loosening on drive-side spokes and less than one turn added to disc-side spokes.

        1. De-tension and true wheel as needed.
